The classic meme font is Impact, a bold condensed typeface that became the standard for internet memes in the early 2000s. It’s typically white text with a thick black outline (stroke), which makes it readable over any image background. Our generator uses Impact by default — the same font used in virtually every classic meme you’ve ever seen.

Absolutely not. Your meme downloads exactly as you see it — no watermarks, no logos, no hidden branding. The image is generated entirely in your browser using the Canvas API, so nothing passes through our servers. You own your creation completely.

Most classic meme images are square or close to it. For sharing on social media, aim for at least 800×800px for Instagram, or 1200×675px for Twitter/X and Facebook. If your source image is smaller, the meme will still work but may appear pixelated at large sizes. Larger source images give crisper results.

Memes often fall under “fair use” in many jurisdictions for non-commercial, transformative use — but this varies by country and context. For personal, non-commercial sharing, memes based on popular images are generally tolerated. For commercial use, you should use images you own, have licensed, or that are in the public domain. When in doubt, use royalty-free images from sites like Unsplash or Pexels.

The look depends on the Impact font being installed on your system, the font size relative to the image, and the outline width. For the most authentic meme look: use white text with a black outline of 5–8px, all caps text, and a font size around 60–80px for a standard image. If your text appears in a fallback font rather than Impact, make sure Impact is installed on your operating system (it’s included with Windows by default; Mac users may need to install it separately).
